A serious complaint was made by FETRA (Television Channels Workers’ Federation), where they accused President Sebastián Piñera and Interior Minister, Andrés Chadwick, of summoning the top executives of local channels to La Moneda, a meeting they call interventionist and undemocratic.
The complaint was announced by the president of the entity, Iván Mezzano, who wrote a letter addressed to the director of Anatel, Ernesto Corona. In the letter he defines this meeting as a practice of dictatorship that aims to condition and disturb the freedom of the press.
Especially noteworthy was the tone of the press as they tried to calm down the population by imposing an alleged return to normality, which was in fact contrary to the truth. Although it is not possible to affirm that this is a strategy from La Moneda, the repetition of the same discourse and concepts in majority of the TV channels is curious.
